April 2021 Greetings and Update from Camila Ferraro

Dear Didy,

I hope this email finds you well. I was awarded the 2020 Lloyd Jacob Memorial Award for my contribution to the Middle Temple as President of its Students' Association. Unfortunately we were not able to meet last year as the 300th Anniversary at the Gala Evening at the Inn was cancelled due to the pandemic. I just wanted to give you an update on my progress since we spoke last April. Since completing the BPTC this January, I have started an internship with the Death Penalty Project & Doughty Street Chambers, funded by the Kalisher Trust scholarship. DPP provides free legal representation to death row prisoners around the world, focussing mainly on the Commonwealth. The work is fascinating and the team is great. DPP is currently preparing a constitutional challenge against the death penalty in Guyana, the last retentionist country in South America. More recently, I have been awarded a Davis Peace Prize. Davis Projects for Peace is a US competition which funds 18 international projects designed to address conflict and create a more peaceful world. I propose to mount an exhibition celebrating the achievements and contributions of former refugees to the UK and will receive a grant of $10,000 to bring my project to life. Wishing you a nice rest of the week. Best wishes, Camila
