Thibault Maurin - Royal College of Music - pianist

Dear Mrs Grahame and Members of the Honourable Society of Knights of the Round Table,

I would like to sincerely thank you for the Knights of the Round Table Award. This scholarship allows me to study on the Master of Performance course at the Royal College of Music.

I am a 23-year-old French pianist. One year ago, I finished my studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris (CNSMDP) in June 2021.

From an early age I dreamed of going to study the piano in London which is a world-famous city of culture and music.

Thanks to your scholarship, I will improve my skills at the Royal College of Music for the rest of my musical and pianistic training course. To do a master's degree in London is for me a logical continuation of my training as a pianist which started when I was seven years old.

I have been the winner of several international competitions (Claude Kahn competition, Chatou competition, International Lyon Piano Competition in July 2022). I have also participated in international academies for which I have been rewarded (such as the International Summer Academy of Flaine’s ‘Young Hopeful Award’). I perform in various festivals in France (Spiriades de la Frette sur Seine, Samois festival, Festival Syrinx, Syrinx en Ré ...).

I am also very interested in the historical approach to the piano, I attended a pianoforte class for a year with Patrick Cohen.

Pedagogy is very important to me, and I have been teaching for three years in an association (A portée de mains) near Paris to students of all levels.

I am also part of a chamber music ensemble (Ensemble Daphnis) with which we regularly give concerts.

All these experiences of my life as a pianist that I have acquired led me to Royal College of Music. Your support allows me to study a Masters degree at the RCM in piano training. This master is renowned around the world for its musical standards. The diversity of subjects offered make this training one of the best in the world.

The high standards and the quality of Royal College of Music is a great opportunity for me to develop my artistic streak.

Also, your scholarship allows me to study with amazing piano teachers. Indeed, they are recognized around the globe and are part of the juries of the most prestigious international competitions. For the next two years your scholarship will allow me to participate in concert projects in solo piano but also in chamber music. I also want to participate in reputable international competitions.

The Royal College of Music is a perfect place to develop these different projects thanks to the Knights of the Round Table Award.

Yours sincerely,

Thibault Maurin
