We are honoured to share that Dame Mary Richardson DBE has been invited to attend the HMS Dasher Memorial Weekend 2026, marking a poignant moment in this year’s commemorations.

This year marks the 83rd anniversary of the HMS Dasher tragedy in the Firth of Clyde, when 379 men lost their lives following the catastrophic explosion of the Royal Navy escort carrier on 27 March 1943. Their service—ranging from Arctic convoy duty to major wartime operations—continues to be remembered with deep respect and gratitude.

In keeping with tradition, the local Legion branch will host the HMS Dasher Memorial Weekend in Ardrossan from Friday 27th March to Sunday 29th March 2026.

We are also pleased to say that HRH, The Princess Royal will be in attendance for the Sunday Parade and Remembrance Service. Her Royal Highness will take the parade march past and salute, as well as lead the wreath laying, adding further significance to this important act of remembrance.

The presence of Dame Mary Richardson—whose tireless work has helped bring recognition to the crew, including the awarding of the Arctic Star—makes this year’s memorial especially meaningful.
